WHAT IS INFIDELITY TESTING?
Infidelity testing refers to the process of gathering evidence to determine whether a partner is being unfaithful in a relationship. This can involve various methods, including:
- Private Investigation – Hiring a private investigator to conduct surveillance, gather photographic evidence, or track movements.
- Digital Forensics – Examining phone records, social media activity, emails, or hidden apps for signs of infidelity.
- DNA or Forensic Testing – Conducting tests on items like clothing, bedsheets, or other personal items to detect the presence of foreign DNA.
- Lie Detector (Polygraph) Tests – Some couples use polygraph tests to confirm or dispel suspicions.
Infidelity testing is a sensitive subject, and it’s essential to approach it with caution, ensuring ethical and legal considerations are respected. Open communication is often the best first step before resorting to testing methods.
We handle the DNA or forensic testing for you.
WHAT is the Most Common DNA Infidelity Tests?
Semen Detection
The semen detection test used by Validity Genetics is a test to detect sarmentogenin. This test is highly accurate and specific to human semen. It will detect even the most diluted samples of semen or semen mixed with other body fluids. Put plainly, this semen test will not crossly react with other proteins or enzymes and will not cause a false positive result. For this very reason it is the semen detection test governmental crime and forensic labs use to confirm the presence of semen on a sample. It is the gold standard in criminal and forensic cases.
The Semen Detection Test will have two possible results:
- Negative: Semen was not detected.
- Positive: Semen was detected.
Please Note: Semen can be detected by our Semen Detection test, but may not have DNA present in a high enough quantity to obtain a DNA profile. This can be for many different reasons. The donor may be possibly vasectomized, oligospermic, or aspermic.
What to do after a positive Semen Detection Test:
If a positive test result is reported, and enough visible sperm are present to warrant supplemental testing we recommend that an infidelity test can bee performed. This test will extract the profile(s) from the sample and can compare your, or anothers, DNA against the profiles found.
A positive result for the presence of semen without detection of male DNA can mean that either the male DNA is present in extremely low amounts relative to any DNA present, or that the male contributor is possibly vasectomized, oligospermic, or aspermia. An infidelity test may be performed when no sperm is visible at a client’s discretion; however, results are not guaranteed.
Please note that the type of Semen Detection Test used by our Laboratory does not cross react with other fluids to produce false positives even if there is no sperm/DNA present.
MORE IN INFIDELITY DNA
A DNA Infidelity Test is the ultimate test for those who want to get peace of mind or to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that their partner is being unfaithful. DNA in humans is 99.9 percent identical. It’s the last 0.1 percent of the DNA profile that makes each of us unique. Comparing those sections of the DNA that are different is how we determine if two samples of DNA come from the same person. The chances of another person’s DNA matching yours are a billion to one. There’s no denying the presence of DNA that doesn’t belong to you. If you’ve found underwear, clothing, panty liners, or other items with signs of semen or sexual activity, it can be tested for DNA. Testing is normally completed within five to ten business days and can tell you if the semen or DNA in a stain is yours or someone else’s.
Our Advanced Infidelity Test is a DNA comparison test that shows you if DNA is present, the gender, if your reference DNA profile (or other sample you provide) matches what is produced from the sample, and display the DNA profiles found. The reference sample is usually in the form of a buccal or cheek swab, but many different items can be used. This test is done when you want to confirm that any DNA present does or does not belong to you or your partner. This test is most commonly done as an Autosomal test but can be run as a Y-STR test to test for only male DNA markers.
HOW DOES DNA INFIDELITY TESTING WORK?
DNA infidelity testing involves analyzing biological samples to determine if there is foreign DNA present, which could indicate potential cheating. Here’s how it typically works:
- Collection of Samples
Samples are collected from items that might contain DNA evidence, such as:
- Bedsheets, underwear, or clothing
- Stains on fabric (semen, saliva, or other bodily fluids)
- Hair strands with roots
- Used tissues or hygiene products
Sample Analysis
The collected samples are sent to a DNA testing lab, where:The material is tested for the presence of bodily fluids (e.g., semen, saliva). If foreign DNA is found, it is extracted and analyzed.
- DNA Comparison
- If a reference DNA sample (such as from the suspected partner) is provided, the lab can compare the found DNA to see if it belongs to them.
- If the DNA does not match, it may suggest the presence of another individual’s genetic material.
- Results Interpretation
- A match between the sample and the partner suggests no outside involvement.
- The presence of an unknown DNA profile could indicate infidelity, though it’s not absolute proof (cross-contamination or innocent contact could explain foreign DNA).
Ethical & Legal Considerations
- Many countries have laws regarding DNA testing and privacy, so obtaining and testing someone’s DNA without consent could be illegal.
- Misinterpretation of results can cause unnecessary conflict, so it’s crucial to approach this with caution.\
What types of items can I use for sample collection?
The most common and helpful sources of a DNA test include things that can help prove a claim of adultery. These include samples like:
- Used condom
- Toothbrush
- Feminine hygiene pads
- Blood
- Stained Sheets
- Underwear and other clothing
- Hair
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET DNA INFIDELITY TESTING RESULTS?
The time it takes to get DNA infidelity testing results depends on the type of analysis being conducted and the lab’s processing speed. Here’s a general timeline:
- Initial Sample Processing (1–3 days)
- The lab examines the submitted materials for the presence of biological fluids (semen, saliva, or skin cells).
- If no DNA is detected, the test may end here.
- DNA Extraction & Analysis (3–7 days)
- If DNA is found, it is extracted and processed.
- The lab then creates a genetic profile from the sample.
- DNA Comparison (If a Reference Sample is Provided) (3–5 days)
- If a reference DNA sample (e.g., from the partner) is available, comparison testing is done to see if the DNA matches.
- If foreign DNA is detected, further analysis may be required.
Total Timeframe:
- Basic Testing (Presence of Biological Material) – 3 to 7 days.
- DNA Identification & Matching – 7 to 14 days.
- Express/Rush Testing – Some labs offer expedited results in 24 to 72 hours for an additional fee.
Can Tell You If It’s Male DNA or Female DNA?
You have found a sample which you think might be evidence of an affair. The first question you probably want answered is “Does the DNA in this sample belong to a male or a female?” The forensic test we offer is what we call a multiple gender test and will answer this very question. With this test we can analyze just about any sample you send and tell you whether your chosen sample contains:
- Male DNA
- Female DNA
- A mix of male and female DNA
Can you exclude your own DNA and see if it is someone else’s?
Once we have established whether the sample contains male or female DNA, the next pressing question for our clients is establishing who that sample might belong to. Here we can offer you what we call a comparison test. We compare the DNA profile from the sample used in the multiple gender test with another DNA sample collected using a mouth swab. The aim is to compare the two DNA profiles to determine whether they match. If the scientists confirm a match we can conclude that the two DNA samples belong to the same donor. If the DNA profiles do not match, the DNA samples belong to two different individuals.
Should is send in my sample?
Whilst most samples will contain viable DNA for forensic testing, we strongly advise against sending us any samples before you have discussed your case with one of our customer care advisers. Once you have selected your sample, please call us or send us an email so we can confirm that we can work with your sample and the probability of it yielding enough DNA for testing. Our customer support team is trained to provide you with all the information you need including how to collect and pack your sample. In cases where you won’t be sending us your sample immediately, we can even tell you how best to store it.
Will DNA Detect Dried Semen Left on Clothes or Bedding?
If you have a sample which you think might contain semen but are unsure, you can choose our semen detection service. Our semen detection test is not a DNA test but a 3-phase laboratory analysis that uses special reagents and scientific techniques to establish the presence of semen with 100% accuracy. Please click here to read more about our Semen Detection Test.
Can a infidelity test be proven in court?
Infidelity DNA testing results have no legal validity.
The stained item will be damaged during the testing process and will not usually be returned to you. The analyst will cut out 2-4 1cm square sections of the stained area of material to be tested. Please let us know at the time of ordering if you would like the damaged item returned to you so we can provide a shipping quote.
WHAT ARE THE (3) TYPES OF DNA INFIDELITY TESTS DOES FASTDNATESTS HAVE?
Our EXPEDITED INFIDELITY DNA TEST $299
In both our expedited and G1 TESTs will conduct what is known as a multiple gender or Autosomal test on the collected sample or stain. This will compile all DNA profiles, compare all samples against one another and determine whether the found genetic material belongs to a male, female, or a mix of both.
The complete process is broken down into these steps:
- Identify if there is any existing human DNA on the suspected sample or stain.
- Match the found DNA to a reference swab you submit to match or eliminate your DNA from the equation. If provided, we will match your partners DNA reference swab and indicate if it is found in the sample or stain.
- If DNA profiles are found, a report will be generated that will indicate whether the DNA profile(s) found are male, female, or a mix of both.
When all the testing is done, FASTDNATESTS will generate a report containing a write up stating if DNA was detected, and if there was a match or non-match between the reference swab and sample(s) submitted
Our G1 INFIDELITY TEST is $399 and is a combination of DNA and Semen Detection. This analysis is highly recommended to obtain the most informative, accurate, and conclusive results.
Our SIMPLE INFIDELITY TEST $249 will analyze the special sample(s) sent to our Laboratory for DNA. The results will show if any DNA is found, and if so the test will determine whether the found genetic material belongs to a male, female, or a mix of both and provide a profile of the DNA found.
SEMEN DETECTION TEST $139 Our semen analysis is a stand alone test which uses a four step process to detect the presence of semen on or in a sample. This type of test only determines the presence of semen, it does not provide a DNA analysis.

What is the PROCESS FOR A DNA INFIDELITY TEST?
I ordered. Now what?
After ordering you will be contacted by a Validity Genetics representative with additional instructions and the address to send your samples to. Additionally, depending on how many comparison samples you need, a DNA Sample Collection Kit will be mailed to you in order to collect the DNA comparison swab(s) used to test against the Special Sample. Simply follow the instructions in the kit to gather the DNA.
If you already have your comparison samples, place each persons samples in their own envelope (please do not use a plastic or zip-lock bag or mix the samples) labeled with order #, name of person (if applicable), date of collection, and include them with your Special Sample.
You will need to send the Special Sample(s) to our laboratory on your own. Depending on what the Special Sample is we recommend placing it inside a paper bag or envelope, please do not place inside a plastic zip-lock bag. On the outside of the bag/envelope please label the following:
- the order number (this will be on your order confirmation),
- a brief description of the item,
- date of the collection,
- approximate age of the sample.
